Frequently Asked Questions

General

1. When was Twin Peaks filmed?

Twin Peaks was filmed between 1989 and 1990. The series aired over two seasons on ABC starting in 1989. It was cancelled the next season.

2. Where was Twin Peaks filmed?

Twin Peaks was filmed in the Pacific Northwest and on stage in California. Many of the exteriors in the pilot and Fire Walk With Me were filmed on location around the Seattle area, specifically in the North Bend area, including Snoqualmie and Great Falls. After filming the pilot, production moved to Hollywood where the sets were created and then shot on studio. Many of the exterior shots were locations around the Los Angeles area. Fire Walk With Me was mostly filmed in the same area as the pilot.

3. How many episodes are in Twin Peaks?

The official number is 29 (or 29 broadcast hours). Those 29 episodes do not include the pilot which was another 2 hours of broadcast time for a total of 31 broadcast hours on TV. The Fire Walk With Me adds more than 2 hours worth of Twin peaks material to make the entire Twin Peaks saga roughly 33 hours of broadcast footage.

4. What's the difference between the European pilot and the broadcast pilot?

In order to make the original pilot more profitable and "watchable," Lynch added another 15 minutes to the ending of what will later be called the European version of the pilot. It contains extra footage with somewhat of a conclusion, including the dream sequence we later see in episode 2. The European ending is not part of the series cannon, however, you can take the last minutes of the European pilot as the full dream of Dale Cooper from Episode 2. Doing this helps to clear up the comments Cooper makes about Truman and Lucy being in the dream the next morning.
